The Red Sox lied to you, again.
David Ortiz has outed the Red Sox for the bullshit. Weather he meant to or not, I don’t know. It seemed like as the Red Sox “pursued” Soto, Ortiz was our man on the inside. Apparently that only goes so far when your $175 million short of the market.
Wait, you told us your offer for Juan Soto was $700 million. Which put you in the running with the Blue Jays and the Yankees, all of which were always going to be out bid by Steve Cohen of the Mets.
This right here is the biggest sin coming from Red Sox ownership and management. Treating their fans like a bunch of dumb assholes. If this was even 5 or 6 years ago that would be one thing. But, do they truly believe we have not been paying attention for five seasons? John Henry has turned is $5 Billion asset into a line item for the Fenway Sports Group and is operating like a Fast Casual restaurant in the suburbs. If you even believed they were truly in on Soto, I’m sorry for you. If the Red Sox think these PR stunts chasing down big named free agents and leaking fake ass offers is making anyone feel better, they are pricks.
This article goes on to say with the money saved not signing Soto they should be in on a right handed bat like Alex Bregman. Nope. Again, get this through your head. The Red Sox have a disciplined budgetary approach now when it comes to baseball operations. Spending $200 million on an All Star player in not in their strategy. The deals have to be perfect. And by perfect I mostly mean cheap.
The next time you hear or read that the Red Sox are “in” on any player with an expected salary at the top of the market your immediate instinct should be, “bullshit”. They have lost all benefit of the doubt when it comes to this. They can not be trusted.
